Trail Ride at the Yegua Knobbs Preserve.

 

Bastrop County equestrians gained a new place to ride on May 22, 2010 when a group of riders met at the Yegua Knobbs Preserve just north of McDade to ride the beautiful rolling hills in the famous Knobbs of McDade. Pines and Prairies Land Trust, a land conservation non-profit organazation based in Bastrop, sponsored the trail ride as a fundraiser for their Preserve and to open the property to new supporters. Riders experienced 30 mile views of everything from neighboring ranches to the drag lines from the Alcoa Aluminum Company smelter in Rockdale. Rider Manon Lemoine of Austin appreciated the opportunity to ride a new place and hopefully commented, "I hope ya'll do a ride a month out here. It is so beautiful.

Future plans for the Yegua Knobbs Preserve include more equestrian activities, campouts, invasive species removal and field days. PPLT Executive Director, Carrie Knox, commented, "We are pleased to open the YKP to new users and teach more folks about what we do and why. Owning and managing the Yegua Knobbs Preserve fullfills our mission of protecting working farms and ranches from fragmentation and helps protect our clean air and water."
